What's Underneath: The Babadook (dir. Jennifer Kent, 2014)

The Babadook was one of the first requests ever to come across the Dangerous Characters transom. It makes sense. It’s a female-directed movie, it centers on a female character, it takes on female depression and despair and rage without flinching, and, bonus: It’s fucking terrifying. 

Yet I put off writing about it for months. Firstly, because The Babadook
